'Be great to start or Start to be great…'

How often do we come up with good ideas?
How often do these ideas only stay good ideas?
How often do you feel great for achieving something new?

It’s the New Year and many of us have made some resolutions and some of us may even have started them… so what is the difference? I think we can all come up with great ideas or ways to make our everyday life better or easier. Unfortunately, there is only a small percentage that starts or puts in place their ideas and benefits from the change.

For example:

We may often find ourselves advising people how to solve certain situations or how to deal with them. And we can be keen in helping them and advising them - we somehow become an expert in relationship, work issues, communication and more. The interesting side of this example is that when we are the person in the situation, we often can’t come up with ideas and when we do, we sometimes can’t put them in place… What would it be like if we started acting on our ideas? How different would our life be? How great would we feel?

So what can we do?

Maybe if we start by asking ourselves the following three questions, we would certainly be in a different state of mind and in a different place.

  • What will the consequences be if nothing changes and what will the benefits be if I do something about it?

If it helps you can make a list of the consequences and/or the benefits… the longer the better.

  • What do I want to see, to hear and to feel instead?

It’s important to get a sense of what you want it to be instead. Think about what you’ll see around you, what you’ll hear people saying or what you’ll be thinking and what you’ll be feeling when you’ll have dealt with the situation.

  • What is the first little thing I can do to start changing the situation?

You need to think small chunks and you need to choose something easy to start with. You’ll be surprised how sometimes, once the first step is made, things are so much easier than you previously thought.

As you begin to ask yourself these 3 easy to remember questions, you’ll start to realise how managing and dealing with difficult situations is something you can easily do. And over the next weeks and months, you’ll notice how much more effective and quicker you are to react to these situations and how much you’ll feel better about yourself.
